Restore The Natural Brightness of Your Beautiful Smile

Your teeth may become yellow or discolored over time, but teeth whitening can help to return them to their natural brightness! Teeth whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten your beautiful smile, and there are several options available.

Teeth Whitening Procedures

To begin, your dentist will assess if you are a suitable candidate for teeth whitening, and also determine which bleaching procedure will give you the desired outcome.

Professional teeth whitening treatments are the most popular choice, as they provide the quickest and most dramatic results. These treatments use powerful bleaching agents that are applied directly to the teeth, which can lighten them by several shades in just one session. At-home whitening kits are also available, and they use a weaker bleaching agent that is applied to the teeth.

No matter which option you choose, it’s important to remember that teeth whitening is not permanent. You may need to touch up your results every few months or so in order to maintain your bright smile.

Teeth Whitening Benefits

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure that can greatly improve the appearance of your smile. One of the main benefits of teeth whitening is that it can remove unsightly stains and discoloration caused by a variety of factors such as smoking, consuming dark-colored beverages, and aging. A brighter, whiter smile can help boost your self-confidence and make you feel more attractive and approachable.

In addition to its cosmetic benefits, teeth whitening can also have a positive impact on your oral health. By removing surface stains, whitening treatments can also help improve the overall cleanliness of your teeth and gums. This, in turn, can reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

Teeth whitening is also a relatively simple and non-invasive procedure, making it a convenient and accessible option for those looking to enhance their smile. Whether you want to boost your confidence for a special event or just want to enjoy a brighter, healthier smile every day, teeth whitening can be a highly effective option.

What's involved in Teeth Whitening?

On your initial visit to us, we'll take an impression of your teeth in order to make a personalized mouthguard for you.

Your custom-made mouthguard is lightweight, so it can be worn when you're awake or asleep. You'll still be able to talk and work while wearing it, as the material is thin enough.

Here at Artin dental we use Zoom which is the most well-known brand.

This is how it works: After we polish and isolate the teeth, the whitening gel is applied on the teeth surface. Then Zoom light is applied to activate the gel. Zoom whitening has instant results and you leave with brighter teeth and smile. Patients are extremely happy with zoom results and that’s what we would suggest to improve color issues in the majority of cases.

At your next appointment, your dentist will provide you with a mouthguard as well as all the necessary materials for teeth whitening to remove the surface stains. They will also give you directions on how to apply the gel and how long to use it each day. Generally, it takes between 10 to 14 days to reach the desired level of whiteness when using a bleaching system.

Are Teeth Bleaching for you?

If your teeth have begun to darken due to age, consuming coffee or tea, or smoking, teeth whitening may be an option for you. However, it is important to consult with your dentist before beginning any whitening treatment.

Bleaching is mostly an effective treatment for discoloration in shades of yellow, brown, or orange; however, it may not be as successful for grey stains caused by fluorosis, smoking, or tetracycline.

If your teeth are very sensitive, have periodontal disease, or have thin enamel, it may be better to choose porcelain veneers over tooth whitening. Your dentist can help you decide if teeth whitening is the right choice for you and provide you with a custom-made mouthguard and bleaching gel. With proper care, you can enjoy a brighter, whiter smile for years to come!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does teeth whitening work?

The principal component in most of our whitening agents is carbamide peroxide (CH4N202). Upon contact with water, this white crystal releases hydrogen peroxide which helps to brighten teeth.

  • Is Teeth bleaching safe? Are there any side effects?

Bleaching is typically safe and effective, although a small percentage of patients may experience minor gum irritation or tooth sensitivity which are typically temporary and should go away once the bleaching treatment is complete.

  • What can I expect from teeth whitening?

Dental teeth bleaching is only capable of restoring the color of a person's natural teeth, for example, from grey to a lighter shade of grey. Materials like resins, silicates, and porcelains cannot be bleached to change their color as it removes the surface stains.

We suggest that you whiten your teeth before undergoing major restoration procedures (like implants, crowns, veneers, and bridges). It is not possible to alter the yellow or grey coloring of teeth, regardless of the restoration technique used.

  • How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?

The whiteness of your teeth can last anywhere between one and five years, depending on your lifestyles, such as how often you consume coffee and tea. Regular touch-ups are recommended to maintain the desired level of whiteness. Bleaching results are usually stable, but your nutrition and lifestyle habits may dictate additional bleaching treatments. A touch-up now and again is easily done with home bleaching agents.

Customers who purchase our cosmetic teeth bleaching kits will have extra vials of bleaching gel remaining after the initial course of treatment. This can be used to maintain a bright, white smile in the future. If you consume large quantities of coffee, tea, or wine, you may need touch-ups every six months.

Customers who have already purchased a mouthguard can purchase bleaching gel vials as needed and continue to use their guard.

Typically, only 2-3 applications of re-treatment are necessary to reach the desired level of whiteness, which takes much less time than initial treatment.

  • Why should tooth whitening be professionally supervised?

First, all teeth whitening products contain peroxide, but the concentration of the peroxides varies widely. High concentrations of peroxide can cause burning of the gums and soft tissue in the mouth and throat and cause sensitivity on the teeth.

  • Why do you need to consult before whitening?

To identify the cause of the discoloration, caries, trauma (non-vital), medication (minocycline), resorption, and make sure there is no contraindication for whitening.

  • If I have sensitive teeth, what options do I have?

Patients with sensitive teeth, receding gums, or with defective restorations should consult with their dentist prior to using a tooth whitening system. Sensitivity from using a tooth whitening agent is usually temporary and disappears within 1-3 days of stopping treatment. However, we would recommend using a lower percentage of whitening gel for a shorter period of time.

Another option is to use desensitizer agent gel (potassium nitrate) before or after each whitening session. This agent works fast to alleviate discomfort in 20-30 minutes.

  • Can you whiten teeth faster with chairside bleaching?

Yes. In-office bleaching or chairside whitening agents use much stronger concentration to deliver rapid results. Opalescence Boost is a 38% hydrogen peroxide gel that is carefully applied by a dental professional to give your teeth a dramatic “whitening boost” in less than an hour. You would then continue your whitening treatment with a take home Touch-up kit.

  • How long does it take to achieve the desired results?

Typically, whitening treatment will take 7-14 days, depending on the degree of staining of the teeth, the location of the staining (enamel or dentin), and the concentration of the active ingredient in the tooth whitening gel. Yellow and brown staining will disappear fastest on about 10-14 days. Blue/gray staining could take 2-4 weeks, and tetracycline stains could take up to several months to disappear as they are usually deeply embedded within the tooth.

  • Why use dentist supervised whitening vs over the counter products?

You will get a correct diagnosis of your discoloration’s cause

    Inappropriate treatment will be avoided

    Appropriate treatment won’t be delayed

Smile analysis; roots, white spots, cracks

Baseline status like photographs & radiographs will be taken (if necessary)

    To identify existing restorations

Custom tray will be fitted by our dentists
